OSU College of Dentistry Partnership

IMG_1032MCDC is honored to have affiliated with The Ohio State College of Dentistry as part of the O.H.I.O Project, Oral Health Improvement through Outreach. During the senior year of dental education, students will intern in two-week rotations at the Miami County Dental Clinic and Traveling Smiles, Miami County Portable Dentistry.  MCDC dentists– Leslie Culp, Victor Dubel, Greg Gallagher, and Lytha Miller will supervise the OSU students.  As a result of the partnership with OSU, our dentists have received adjunct professor status in the College of Dentistry. The students are exposed to multiple dental technologies, observe our non-profit practice management model, practice four-handed dentistry, and increase their speed, confidence and proficiency—all while serving Miami County residents who are uninsured or on state-assisted insurances.  This partnership enhances the community service ethic and inculcates the sense of social responsibility of the students and it allows us to serve more patients.

“It’s a good fit for both the students and the clinic,” said Dr. Lytha Miller.  “We work right beside them.  They gain the experience they need before they graduate and they help the clinic at the same time.”  Fourth year dental student Dr. Will Burnard believes, “It’s a win-win for everyone.  I get to work on real patients who need care and I, in return, gain more confidence and skills in practicing dentistry.”
